Yushu County in Qinghai Province China, with an average altitude of more than 4,200 meters, has a typical plateau climate and a winter as long as 7-8 months throughout the year. The average annual temperature was 2.9 ° C, and the coldest was in January, with an average temperature of -7.5 ° C. It was in this extremely cold mountain of Yushu that there were a group of cute children at Juela Boarding School. Nearly three hundred students lived in Juela Boarding School, they are the children from the deep valley. Some of them were orphans, and some come from far way. Due to transportation and information constraints, there were very few supplies to help these children. Therefore, DENER chose Juela Boarding School as the first school to aid in the winter program. After few years of donations and mutual understanding, field visits by our working group in August 2015, this project finally started in 2015.

In October, we were still enjoying the comforts of late summer and early autumn in the city, but the first snow of Qinghai Yushu was already brewing. Our plan is to raise children’s down jackets and quilts before December so that they can all have a warm winter.

We really appreciate the enthusiastic responses of many friends and allowed us to successfully complete this fundraising within a month. This year we raised a total of two hundred fifty-five children’s down jackets, one hundred twenty quilts and one hundred bedding bags to Juela Boarding School.

This program could be carried out so smoothly, we wanted to thank all the manufacturers for their cooperation. They have not only given us the lowest price but also worked overtime to help us pack in accordance with China Post’s strict parcel rules. In addition, when these manufacturers knew about our plan, they also actively participated in it. Some helped us discounted the freight and some donated a few more quilts. I realized that “love” was really a common language for everyone. We want to thank everyone for supporting us. Our supplies were successfully sent by batches from October 27th to November 10th. And on November 15th, the school told us that they had all received them.

Through these clothes and quilts, the love of so many uncles, aunts, brothers, and sisters were passed on to the children.  The children wrapped these loves around their heads, hugged them in their hands, and maybe slowly integrated into their hearts. The thought that this winter, these children in the deep mountains of Yushu would feel warm, our moods also warm up.
