Children in Remote Areas Need Your Support

There is a significant disparity between Taiwan’s remote mountain regions and urban areas. Geographic inconveniences, lack of after-school support, high teacher turnover rates, and a predominance of disadvantaged families have created challenges for children in remote areas, such as resource scarcity, insufficient cultural stimulation, and lower academic performance. DENER has long been dedicated to providing educational resources and learning materials to remote areas, aiming to bridge the academic gap between urban and rural children and ensure equal learning opportunities for children in remote regions. We invite you to contribute to DENER’s three major education programs and light a beacon of hope for children in remote corners.

Due to geographic constraints, schools in remote areas lack the convenience of facilities and resources available in urban schools. Every year, DENER surveys the actual needs of these schools, procures diverse learning materials such as pencils, watercolor sets, books, and sports equipment, and has volunteers carefully package and deliver them. This effort not only helps maintain the normal operation of remote schools but also alleviates school expenses for the children. Your support will be used to purchase various learning supplies and cover transportation costs.

The summer and winter breaks are when children in remote areas experience the most significant learning loss. Over 60% of parents in these areas must work in cities or spend long hours away to support their families. With limited access to after-school classes, art courses, or tutoring, most children rely on school or community support. Each year, we train passionate young educators as “Reading Seed Teachers” to conduct bilingual reading classes in remote schools. Your donations will be used to support volunteer training, classroom materials, and all resources required for bilingual reading programs.

Remote schools often face challenges in providing diverse educational opportunities and English courses due to geographic isolation and high teacher turnover rates. In contrast, urban areas benefit from a variety of educational facilities and families with higher socioeconomic backgrounds, further widening the knowledge and ability gap between rural and urban children. To address this, DENER hires professional tutors to regularly visit remote schools and provide long-term bilingual and reading programs. Your contributions will ensure continuous teaching support for these children, helping to reduce the academic disparity.
