First time to Tie Shan Elementary School
This semester, DENER added two new partners to the long-term service partner. Tie Shan Elementary School in Waipu District was one of them. This is our first time to Tie Shan Elementary School. Teacher An An led the teaching service this semester. When we met for the first time, the first- and second-grade children were all well-behaved, sit quietly in their seats and listened to the teacher’s self-introduction. The teacher played a small game with everyone, and soon the classroom atmosphere become lively.
What is ‘’love’’
After getting to know each other better, Teacher An An gave picture books－”What is Love”. Children were divided into four groups according to the four characters in the picture book and to read along. When the teacher asked a question, the children raised their hands happily to answer. During the interaction, we knew that the children were wandering in the world of books. The picture book introduced that love is like a mischievous magic, it will incarnate in different appearances and exist by our side. In addition to reading, Teacher An An also arranged an origami session. The teacher taught the children to fold a heart out of colored paper and write the name of the person they want to give.
Suddenly, a little girl gave her love to the teacher as a gift. The heartwarming little gesture instantly warmed the atmosphere. We also felt the shy smile of the child hidden under the mask.
Love in children's eyes
When everyone finished their paper love, teacher An An took children to complete the extended study sheet and wrote down what love looked like in their eyes. A child said love is swinging with their brother, eating ice-cream with their parents, and painting with their sister. In their eyes, love is sweet and happy, and the color is sweet pink and the shape is colorful L. The interpretation of love from children were common, but their creativity were beyond our imagination.
For the first class, we learned how to love, express love, and share love with the children of Tie Shan Elementary School. Love is simple and can have many appearances. We hope that every day in the future, the children would remember to feel and pass love.
